Living Textures
textile design, thermoplastic, natural dyeing

‘Living Textures’ explores our relationship to texture and the everyday. The personal connection and interactions we have with the tactility of texture and the emotions it evokes is what inspired the works in this collection.

From the softness of my bed linen that brings comfort and reminds me of peace and security, to the warmth and fuzziness of sand in my toes that take me back to summer holidays with family and make me feel grounded.

Texture has a huge impact on our lives and is experienced everyday in almost every encounter. Bringing in colours from a sunset, the palette in this collection uses a selection of colours that makes me feel grounded and continues to connect me to those living textures.

Exploring different forms and shapes to create texture, I have created samples through the use of experimental thermoplastics and synthetic dyeing. Made up of quality 100% Polyester Satin, the works have been steamed into textural forms using different materials such as cardboard molds, buttons and stitiching. During and after the steaming process, the fabrics have been dyed using a series of techniques such as Shibori Resist, Tye Dyeing and Ombre.
