Light and Play is an exploration of experimental darkroom techniques, the expressive use of light and play and its reaction to diverse tangible objects.
Experimenting with space and form, the light transforms everyday objects to create evocative photograms that instil a feeling of magic and wonder. Taking inspiration from the Bauhaus and techniques of artists Laszlo Maholy-Nagy and Man Ray. By Working directly with light in the darkroom the artists created iconic photograms by experimenting with spontaneity and chance through the configuration of different forms that were challenging what we see.
The Bauhaus was a period of transformation and change in art and design where artists were encouraged to embrace experimentation and new techniques while also heavily influenced by the Constructivism movement. Using grids made from different card places against the object, these works combine the 'transformation and experimentation' with the structure and form of 'Constructivism'.
